Winter fun (for those who admit it) PDF Print E-mail

On Sunday Jan 31st was the Homestake Lodge winter triathlon.  For many, apparently, it was hellish.  For me, it was like they invented this silly sport just to make me happy.  The conditions were soft, which made for almost comical running and biking.  The only discipline that was true to it's traditional values was the skate skiing.  If it had been hard pack, it would have been a different story.  The runners would have kicked my butt as they usually do and John Curry would have punished me on the bike like he always does.  Wallowing in the deep snow played havoc on many people's psyche and that was probably the single most important factor in the outcome of this race.  Even though some complained, everybody was smiling when it was all said and done.  I think deep down we all had fun.  Results can be found on the Homestake Lodge events page here: http://www.homestakelodge.com/events1.html

Cross Country RESULTS
Downhill RESULTS

The Lone Peak's Revenge has been a great race the past several years, and it keeps getting better.  The course is excellent and was improved this year.  More improvements to the course are in store for next year.  The vendors who supply Gallatin Alpine Sports consistently contribute extensively to the race -- resulting in excellent prizes for winners and for the raffle.  This year, post-race food was provided by the Big Sky Thai restaurant Lotus Pad.  It was so good!!  Free beer, too!!  And music on the lawn patio at the base of the hill.

So . . . if you missed it this year, make a mental note to go to this race next year.  It is one of the best races in MT -- very similar to the Bohart Bash in terms of excellent course and festive atmosphere.
